Job Title: Cash Accountant

Division: Finance

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Location: Hybrid within Greater Houston, TX

Salary Range: $63,052 - $74,178

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Summary

This position manages the accurate recording, reconciliation, and monitoring of cash receipts and disbursements for non-research activities across the institution. The role ensures that payments, wire transfers, checks, and ACH transactions are applied promptly and accurately while investigating discrepancies and reconciling activity to the general ledger and related accounts. The position supports financial reporting, audit preparation, regulatory compliance, and internal controls in accordance with GAAP and institutional policies. It also collaborates with finance teams, faculty administrators, and other stakeholders to resolve cash-related inquiries and improve cash management.

Job Duties

  • Processes and records non-research cash receipts, including checks, wire transfers, and ACH payments, and ensures funds are applied to the correct accounts.
  • Reviews cash activity, completes account reconciliations, and researches payment differences or unidentified transactions.
  • Works with accounting, finance, affiliate, and departmental staff to resolve issues and provide information related to cash receipts.
  • Prepares supporting documents for monthly close, financial reporting, and audits, while helping improve cash-handling procedures and internal controls.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a research academic setting or comparable environment.
