Cat Scan Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform CT procedures according to established protocols while maintaining professionalism and service excellence.
• Obtain necessary medical, surgical, and radiological supplies for specific procedures.
• Maintain sterility of the field and instruments.
• Correctly prepare requisitions and ensure medical records, previous reports, laboratory results, and patient history are available.
• Verify patient identification according to AHS policy.
• Communicate with patients and families before, during, and after procedures to alleviate anxiety while maintaining privacy and dignity.
• Follow all HIPAA regulations and protect patient privacy.
• Observe patients before and after contrast administration and report changes to nursing staff and the Radiologist.
• Assess patient ability to tolerate contrast and screen for allergies and medication incompatibilities.
• Perform venipuncture and follow power injector protocols.
• Initiate emergency response procedures when complications occur.
• Maintain adequate supplies of linens, contrast media, biopsy/drainage supplies, and other CT materials.
• Participate in daily inventory and stocking of supplies.
• Maintain CT storeroom and outside inventory.
• Identify expired or soon-to-expire equipment and medications and notify the Lead.
• Clean and inventory supplies and maintain cleanliness of the CT gantry, table, equipment, and scanning rooms after each use.
• Adhere to assigned CT rooms and maintain an orderly, clean work environment.
• Notify the Coordinator or Lead of equipment malfunctions and recognize unusual equipment conditions.
• Maintain required QA/QC standards, including daily, monthly, and ACR specifications.

Point Staff Responsibilities

When assigned as Point, the technologist will:

• Triage procedures according to the daily schedule.
• Coordinate emergency and unscheduled procedure requests in a timely manner.
• Assign staff to maintain efficient workflow and patient safety.
• Coordinate emergent and unscheduled procedures within the daily schedule.
• Communicate with departments and floors regarding patient status.
• Ensure immediate patient transport following procedures.
• Assist with routine CT procedures.
• Maintain workflow throughout the CT section.

Emergency & Critical Imaging

• For Code Grey, Trauma, and Partial Trauma cases, acquire, process, transmit, and verify images in the PACS/RIS system according to established protocols.
• Code Grey images must be processed and sent immediately following acquisition.
• Notify the Radiologist as Code Grey images are being transmitted and provide any additional processed data.
• Notify the Radiologist of any unusual findings to support optimal patient care.
