CDL-A Dry Van Owner-Operators – 53' Tractor Trailer

The Driving Desk is seeking independent CDL-A Owner-Operators who own or lease a Class 8 tractor and operate a 53-foot dry van trailer. We are looking to connect with experienced owner-operators interested in freight opportunities through transportation brokers and shippers nationwide.

This opportunity is designed for owner-operators looking for professional dispatch support to help locate available freight, negotiate competitive rates, coordinate shipments, communicate with brokers, and manage daily load operations.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport dry van freight across local, regional, or over-the-road routes.
• Pick up and deliver shipments according to scheduled appointments.
• Maintain communication with dispatch regarding load status, delays, and delivery updates.
• Maintain required operating authority, insurance, and vehicle documentation.
• Provide professional customer service during pickups and deliveries.
• Complete required shipping paperwork, including Bills of Lading (BOL) and Proof of Delivery (POD).
• Comply with applicable DOT, FMCSA, and state transportation regulations.

Equipment Requirements

• Class 8 tractor in safe operating condition.
• 53-foot dry van trailer (owned, leased, or otherwise available for approved freight assignments).
• Equipment that meets applicable DOT safety standards.
• Reliable communication and GPS capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Own or lease a qualifying tractor.
• Access to a 53-foot dry van trailer.
• Active MC and USDOT operating authority, where required, or operation under an appropriately authorized motor carrier.
• Current commercial auto liability and cargo insurance as required for applicable loads.
• Ability to meet broker and shipper qualification requirements.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to operate as an independent business.

Qualified owner-operators may receive professional dispatch support, including:

• Load searching and booking
• Freight rate negotiation
• Broker and shipper communication
• Route planning and load coordination
• Pickup and delivery appointment scheduling
• Shipment tracking and status updates
• Broker setup and administrative paperwork assistance
• Assistance identifying return loads to reduce empty miles

Compensation

This is an independent contractor business opportunity.

Compensation varies based on freight availability, negotiated rates, operating lanes, and loads accepted by the owner-operator.

Owner-operators maintain control over which loads they accept. Dispatch service fees and payment terms will be explained before entering into a service agreement.

No minimum freight volume or earnings are guaranteed.

The Driving Desk provides dispatch and administrative support to independent motor carriers. We do not employ owner-operators or directly provide transportation services.
