Assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate orientation, continuing education, and in-service programs for staff.
Recommend improvements in the quality of services provided by the Central Processing Department.
Serve as a resource to staff.
Implement training and orientation programs, including job shadowing and formal classes for new employees and students.
Perform systematic follow-up procedures to ensure competency in Central Processing skills.
Provide feedback on performance and recommend employment continuation.
Coordinate with Operating Room staff to schedule and administer clinical rotations.
Apply principles of adult learning and solve technical clinical issues.
Conduct quality improvement and research utilization projects.
Develop and conduct educational programs and presentations.
Evaluate clinical technical competence of trainees and probationary employees.
Educate staff on new CPD technologies and changes in policies and procedures.
Monitor progress of education and certification preparation for CPD technicians.
Assist CPD in maintaining JCAHO standards and develop competency programs.
Utilize Incident Reporting systems for quality improvement and root cause analysis.
Remain knowledgeable of unit-based QI projects and assist with training plans.
Stay current with CPD technology and adult education theory.
Requirements:
Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of formal education and experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Certification by Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Central Board of Sterile Processing Departments (CBSPD) or other recognized certification.
Minimum 3 years of recent experience as an Educator or Supervisor in Central Processing/Operating Room, or 5 years of experience as a Central Processing Tech with progressive responsibility.
Basic computer proficiency and effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred Skills:
Multilingual skills beyond English, appropriate to the employee populations served by the medical center.
Advanced interpersonal and writing skills for educational programs and leadership responsibilities.
Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
