Overview:
Reports directly to the designated immediate manager for the specific practice or outpatient department. Responsible for scheduling patient appointments. Interviews patients to obtain appropriate demographic and financial information. Registers patients and performs other registration functions. Obtains necessary signatures and documentation from patients for billing and insurance purposes. Orders laboratory tests and other tests via the computer system at the direction of the physicians. Performs end-of-day disposition and gathers appropriate statistical information relating to patients. Announces the arrival of patients and answers incoming telephone calls for the department/practice. Serves as a liaison between patients, nurses, physicians, and others. Provides excellent customer service and greets patients entering the department/practice. A professional multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.

Requirements:
Must obtain Medical Assistant certification within six (6) months of hire or transfer into the position.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Must be graduates of an approved Medical Assistant program.
Less than one (1) year of related experience required.
Required Skills & Qualifications

Excellent verbal communication skills in English.
Basic arithmetic skills for cashiering functions.
Data entry experience required.
Ability to prioritize tasks and organize workflow effectively.
Ability to maintain professionalism and provide excellent customer service in stressful situations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize work efficiently.
Knowledge of ambulatory healthcare or related healthcare fields.
Strong conflict resolution skills.
Preferred Experience
Two to four (2–4) years of clerical and/or customer service experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
One (1) year of experience working with third-party payors preferred.
Computer experience, including data entry and review of patient demographic information preferred.
One (1) year of Medical Assistant experience preferred.
ICD-9 and CPT coding knowledge preferred.
Completion of a medical terminology course preferred, but not required.
