Overview:
The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.In addition to a variety of duties associated with daily clinic preparation process, patient identification, patient check in, charge posting, cash management and basic patient appointment scheduling. Conveys a positive image and provides information to ensure patients' needs are met.
Responsibilities:
Clinical & Patient Care
- Rooming Patients: Collect pertinent information regarding the patient's chief complaint, take vital signs, and complete medication reconciliation.
- Medication Administration: Administer adult and pediatric medications precisely per provider orders.
- Prescription Refills: Provide assistance with refills per department protocols. Call into pharmacies, notify patients, and document in the EMR.
- Patient Education: Provide written instructions for procedures/medications and retrieve condition-specific education per provider directions.
- Exams & Procedures: Assist providers with exams and procedures. Perform EKGs, ear washes, vision screenings, dressing changes, wound care, and splint applications/removals.
Diagnostics & Office Procedures
- Point of Care Testing: Complete diagnostic point of care testing.
- TB Screening: Read negative TB skin tests. Steer patients to a department nurse when TB screening appears to have indications of a positive result.
- Competency Maintenance: Maintain department-specific competencies related to point of care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
- Rounding: Perform routine waiting room and exam room rounding.
Administrative & Communication
- Telephone Interactions: Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities per department protocols.
- Administrative Tasks: Manage prior authorizations, schedule appointments, verify benefits, and coordinate referrals and testing.

Salary Range:
The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
