Job Title: Certified Payroll Professional / Payroll Processor
Duration: 7 Weeks (with possible extension)
Location: New York, NY 10004
Schedule: Day Shift | 08:00 AM – 04:00 PM
Work Hours: 35 hours/week (1-hour unpaid lunch)


Important Note

  • Candidates must be available to work every other Friday on a rotating schedule:
    • 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM or
    • 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Position Overview

A leading organization is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Processor to support payroll operations. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in payroll processing, tax calculations, and compliance, along with the ability to manage multiple systems and ensure high accuracy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule, including:
    • Regular wages, overtime, and bonuses
    • Tax withholdings and garnishments
    • Benefit deductions (including 401(k))
  • Perform retroactive pay calculations and time adjustments with high accuracy
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity within HRIS/payroll systems
  • Manage time and attendance records and resolve discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Assist with year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation
  • Reconcile payroll data and support audits and tax reporting
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll and compensation data
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other internal teams

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, HR, or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of payroll processing experience

Required Experience

  • Payroll tax calculations and compliance
  • Garnishments processing
  • Year-end payroll activities
  • Retroactive payroll calculations

Technical Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)

    • PeopleSoft
    • ADP
  • Experience in healthcare or large, complex organizations is a plus
