Position Summary


Virginia Steel & Fabrication is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Structural Steel Welder/Fabricator to join our growing manufacturing team in Bastian, Virginia. This position is responsible for the fabrication, fitting, welding, and assembly of structural steel components used in commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and energy-related projects.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, experience in welding and steel fabrication, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and fabrication details
  • Perform MIG and FCAW welding on structural steel components
  • Fit, fabricate, and assemble structural steel members and miscellaneous metals
  • Operate fabrication equipment including saws, ironworkers, drills, grinders, forklifts, and overhead cranes
  • Measure and verify dimensions and tolerances accurately
  • Maintain production quality standards and productivity expectations
  • Safely handle and move materials throughout the fabrication facility
  • Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA standards, and workplace policies
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Collaborate with supervisors, project managers, and fellow team members
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on operational needs

Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Prior welding and/or structural steel fabrication experience preferred
  • Ability to read a tape measure and basic fabrication drawings
  • Basic knowledge of welding equipment, hand tools, and fabrication machinery
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to work overtime as required

Physical Requirements


This position requires work in an industrial manufacturing environment and may involve:

  • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting for extended periods
  • Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Exposure to welding fumes, loud noise, dust, heat, and moving mechanical equipment
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
