Chaplain

PositionSummary Provides quality pastoral care supporting patients and staff within their particular perspective. Collaborates with the members of Hunterdon Health to address the spiritual needs of the patient, family across departments including Palliative Care, Hospice, Inpatient units, Emergency Department, Critical Care. Primary Position Responsibilities 1. Member ofthe palliative care team 2. Acts as a liaison to thefaith communityin Hunterdon County for the purpose of developing cooperative pastoral care. 3. Provides spiritual counseling, provisions for various sacraments, prayer, readings, music and rituals. Acts as an advocate for the spiritual concerns of the patient, family/significant other and staff 4. Assists with end of life issues and provides guidance on ethical issues and referrals. Provides guidance in ethical issues to patients, families and Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and educates IDT regarding issues related to religion, spirituality and other topics determined to be appropriate. 5. Provides Assessment of spiritual needs and works to create a plan of care with Hunterdon Hospice IDT based on assessment and makes visits to Hunterdon Hospice patients / families in their home providing spiritual counseling, provision of rituals and funerals when necessary. 6. Supports Hunterdon team members after crisis or trauma as needed. Qualifications Minimum Education: Required: Masters Degree of Divinity or equivalent Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation): Required: One year in a health care setting Preferred: Completion of 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education is preferred Official ordination or endorsement from faith community or religious tradition License, Registry or Certification: Required: Preferred: Certification preferred APC (Association of Professional Chaplains) Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Required: Spiritually mature and appreciate religious values, beliefs and practices of other than those of one own denomination. Emotionally stable and cognizant of the particular role as a member of the health team. Be able to identify with and be sensitive to the cultural values and patterns of the patients called upon to serve. Have an inherent interest and concern for the patients physical and emotional needs as well as religious needs. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to work with interdisciplinary teams. Ability to identify problems and resolve them using a systems approach for process improvement. Experienced in crisis intervention with patients, families and staff.
