Job Summary

The Chaplain Resident 1 offers compassionate spiritual and emotional support to all Baylor Scott & White Health patients, family members, and staff. This support is given regardless of faith background or religious affiliation as part of a holistic, multidisciplinary team approach. The resident serves in a one-year residency program under the Clinical Pastoral Education Program accredited by ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education and Baylor Scott & White Health policies and procedures.

Essential Functions of the Role

• Fulfills CPE requirements; continues professional development of behavior-based competencies in the delivery of spiritual care services.
• Organizes, promotes, and conducts religious services for patients, families, and staff. This includes weekly worship, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing, and coordinating bereavement needs.
• Works with the Professional Chaplain, the "Mentor," in providing spiritual care within interdisciplinary teams.
• Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering spiritual support and counseling to patients and families.
• Partners with physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and staff. They form an interdisciplinary team to assess patient needs and enrich care.
• Properly documents spiritual care and pastoral assessments and care within the EPIC templates.
• Conducts a pastoral assessment of a patient''s spiritual and emotional status and the need for spiritual care.

Board Certification Seminar:

Active participation in the weekly APC board certification seminar at Baylor is required, if not board certified. (Hours spent writing essays for APC board certification and/or for the seminar are not considered work hours)

Key Success Factors

• Knowledge of philosophical systems and religions.
• Knowledge of the methods and methods of pastoral care and the role of a chaplain in an institutional setting.
• Knowledge of the religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.
• Able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.
• Relational and listening skills.
• Skill in counseling patients, family members and staff.
• Ability to passionately participate as a member of a professional therapeutic team.
• Ability to continue pastoral professional development.
• Enroll in or complete a Master''s degree in theology or a related field at an accredited institution preferred.
• Denominational endorsement for chaplaincy, ordination or commissioning to ministry preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least (4) ACPE certified units of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education)

Minimum Qualifications

• EDUCATION - Bachelor''s

• Preferably in related field (Theology, Religious Studies, Counseling, etc.)

• EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
