Chemical Operator, Cell Cathode Engineering

Tesla's in-house pCAM Manufacturing Pilot is located in Fremont, California and represents critical efforts to increase the supply of cathode in North America. Candidates for the pCAM Pilot Chemical Process Operator must have a strong work ethic, be safety conscious, display attention to detail, have good communication skills, and be able to work in a team-based environment. The successful candidate will safely and efficiently operate equipment in the pCAM pilot space. This position is responsible for performing analytical testing, making field and DCS process changes, handling of raw materials, and troubleshooting equipment issues. Process operation requires 24hr coverage and therefore night shift flexibility.

• Communicate with fellow chemical operators and engineering team members regarding safety, production, quality, and operational issues within the Wet Space Pilot

• Follow operating procedures and verbal instruction to run steady state and batch unit operations. Contribute to development of startup, shutdown, and standard operating procedures

• Issue safe work permits and conduct lock out, tag out of equipment

• Monitor process variables in both the field and control room. Make process changes on the distributed control system to maintain parameters within operating limits

• Ensure quality control through sampling and analytical testing of intermediary and finished product chemical compounds

• Receipt of raw material shipments, handling of drums/containers, bulk loading of liquid and powder components

• Troubleshoot equipment and provide mechanical support during pilot construction phases

• 3+ years of experience in refinery/chemical processing

• 2+ years preferred of console operation in refinery/chemical processing

• Climb stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and safely lift up to 50 lbs.

• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time, including a respirator and safety harness

• Proficient with computers and use of digital management systems to schedule, order, and communicate effectively

• Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal

Essential Physical Demands:

• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
• Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
• Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach
• Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
• Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
• Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing
• Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines

Expected Compensation

$24.80 - $49.20/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
