Job Description

Company Description:

Founded in 2018 and based in the United States in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Claros Technologies is a global leader in PFAS mitigation, with two core divisions. The ClarosTech division focuses exclusively on the permanent destruction of PFAS, offering affordable, high-flow, scalable, and field-ready systems that destroy long, short, and ultra-short chain PFAS compounds. ClarosLabs, the company's ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited analytical division, is a leading commercial laboratory dedicated solely to PFAS detection, quantification, and exposure assessment.

We are a diverse team of scientists, engineers, business builders, and impact-driven leaders dedicated to solving critical environmental problems. In 2026, Claros closed a $55 million financing round, positioning us to fulfill commercial adoption and expand globally. If you're a mission-driven and highly motivated individual looking to solve problems without creating new ones, join our team in accomplishing our mission to take the 'forever' out of "forever chemicals" and destroy PFAS for good.

Job Summary

The Customer Applications Chemist is a hands-on chemistry professional who serves as a critical bridge between research, product development, and customer success. Reporting to the Vice President of Product Development, this role combines technical expertise in water chemistry and PFAS treatment with meaningful customer engagement throughout the business development and technology deployment process.

This position is ideal for a chemist who wants to move beyond the laboratory and become a trusted technical advisor to customers. In addition to conducting treatability studies and evaluating customer water chemistries, this role will participate in customer meetings, support early-stage customer qualification efforts, and help identify the most effective treatment approach for each application. The role requires the ability to translate technical findings into practical business recommendations that support customer acquisition, pilot execution, and commercial deployment.

The Customer Applications Chemist will also travel to customer facilities as needed, up to 40% of the time, to support pilot planning, startup, operation, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation alongside Claros engineers, scientists, and customer personnel. Through this combination of laboratory work, field engagement, and customer interaction, the role is designed to cultivate a commercially minded scientist who can effectively connect chemistry, product development, and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Applications & Technical Consulting

  • Evaluate customer water chemistry data and assess suitability for Claros PFAS destruction and treatment technologies.
  • Develop technical recommendations regarding treatment approach, process applicability, and expected performance based on customer-specific water matrices.
  • Participate in customer-facing technical discussions during the early stages of customer engagement and project development.
  • Support technical due diligence activities that inform pilot selection and commercial opportunities.

Project Execution & Data Analysis

  • Design, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments supporting customer projects, product development initiatives, and technology validation efforts under the supervision of the Product Development Project Lead.
  • Develop, interpret, and summarize data in a manner that supports technical decision-making, customer deliverables, and business objectives.
  • Identify technical challenges during treatability studies and recommend solutions or process modifications.
  • Maintain high standards of experimental rigor, documentation, and data traceability.

Customer Pilots & Field Support

  • Travel to customer facilities as needed, up to 40% of the time, to support pilot project planning, execution, startup, performance evaluation, and troubleshooting.
  • Work closely with Claros engineers, chemists, operators, and customer personnel during pilot deployments.
  • Collect, interpret, and communicate field performance data to support customer decisions and product development efforts.

Product Development & Technical Innovation

  • Contribute to the development and optimization of treatment processes through data-driven experimentation and analysis. Support evaluation of new technologies, treatment approaches, and application opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance product performance, reliability, and commercial viability.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with Claros safety requirements, laboratory procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and well-documented laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism while representing Claros in customer meetings, pilot projects, and industry interactions.
  • Communicate effectively across scientific, engineering, commercial, and operational teams.

Qualifications

  • B.S./M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2-5 years' experience in chemistry or applications related work.
  • Excited to travel to customer sites and see technology deployed in field settings.
  • Able to connect laboratory data, customer needs, and product capabilities to identify the right treatment solution.
  • Strong laboratory skills with attention to detail and consistency.
  • Knowledge of water treatment process or environmental chemistry or water chemistry.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques such as LC-MS, TOC, or ion chromatography.

This role offers a unique opportunity for a scientist who wants to combine chemistry, customer engagement, product development, and field experience while helping scale a breakthrough PFAS treatment technology from laboratory validation to commercial adoption.
