Chicago - Accounting Specialist

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and reconciliations within a freight forwarding environment.
• Process and audit carrier, agent, and vendor invoices, ensuring accurate cost allocation across shipment files and resolving billing discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Prepare monthly financial reports, accruals, and journal entries to support a timely and accurate close process.
• Monitor cash flow, aging reports, and collections activity, escalating issues and providing actionable recommendations to leadership.
• Partner with operations teams to ensure shipment-level profitability is captured accurately, supporting margin analysis and cost control initiatives.
• Assist in the development and documentation of accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial reporting standards as the company scales.
• Serve as a key contributor to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning efforts, with increasing responsibility over time as you grow toward an Accounting Manager and eventually CFO-level role.
