The 120-foot 260 GRT Thea Foss is a steel-hulled luxury yacht designed by famed naval architect L.E. Ted Geary and built by Craig Shipbuilding Co. in Long Beach California in 1930. The vessel carries between 5 and 6 crew members and up to 20 day-cruise guests or 10 overnight guests. The owner Saltchuk Resources committed to an extensive restoration over the years and the vessel is in excellent operational and cosmetic condition. Today Thea Foss is home-ported in Seattle on Lake Union and is used for the enjoyment of the customers and guests of the Saltchuk family of companies. The boat is operated and maintained year-round. The vessel may travel to Alaska or the San Juan Islands in the summer for a few months and otherwise is based in Seattle on Lake Union for local dinner cruising in the Spring and FallWinter with Jan-April in maintenance.Job ResponsibilitiesDuties entail a wide variety of responsibilities including but not limited toOperating the Thea Foss&rsquos engines Twin Atlas 550hp direct reversing dieselsHands on maintenance and repair of the vessel&rsquos mechanical systems and working with qualified outside vendors including hydraulic pneumatic plumbing and marine sanitation refrigeration electrical mechanical and electronic systems as well as the diesel generators and the main diesel propulsion enginesResearching planning and overseeing maintenance and repair projects and haul-out periods in cooperation with the captain.Supervising evaluating and training as needed all reporting crew membersWorking with all other crewmembers to establish and ensure Best Practices and ProceduresBeing the face of Saltchuk &ndashalways appropriately groomed and courteous to passengers and other crew membersQualificationsRecent employment as chief engineer aboard yachts or small passenger vessels of 100 to 500 gross tonsFamiliarity with direct-reversing diesel enginesFamiliarity with basic large-yacht systems electrical pneumatic hydraulic MSD plumbing etc.Licensed engineer or equivalent experienceUp-to-date Basic Safety TrainingPreferredAdvanced firefighting trainingFamiliarity with 1929 Atlas Imperial direct-reversing diesel enginesPrefer two years attendance at a trade school junior college or university in a program of marine engineering coursesExperience & SkillsMinimum 5 years of shipboard engineering experienceStrong communication presentation and collaboration skillsProactive takes initiative to accomplish tasksStrong communicator with good collaboration skillsProactive leader takes initiative to accomplish tasksWorks well with others at all levelsExhibit strong project planning skillsBe willing to learn and practice the vessel&rsquos Best Practices and Safety ProceduresAbility to learn and operate all the yacht&rsquos mechanical systemsWork ScheduleA flexible schedule is required - schedules include evenings weekends and holidays.Pay & BenefitsWe&rsquore committed to taking care of you and your family today and in the future.
