Chief Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead the estimating efforts for heavy civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with HCSS HeavyBid/HeavyJob and a proven background in heavy civil estimating and project management.

Responsibilities

• Lead estimating efforts from bid review through proposal submission
• Oversee and mentor a team of 3–5 Estimators/Project Managers
• Review plans, specifications, scopes, and bid requirements
• Develop accurate and competitive project estimates
• Manage bid schedules, subcontractor/vendor pricing, and proposals
• Work closely with operations and project management teams to ensure accurate project turnover
• Review project costs, production rates, and historical data
• Identify project risks and opportunities during the estimating process
• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, owners, and clients
• Help improve estimating processes, systems, and procedures

Qualifications

• 8+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience
• Strong proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid and HeavyJob
• Experience leading or managing estimating/project management teams
• Strong understanding of heavy civil construction, including earthwork, utilities, excavation, grading, and roadway work
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
