    Job Description

    Provides high-quality flight instruction and academic support to students in the aviation program by utilizing appropriate college resources, aircraft, simulation tools, and instructional technologies. Contributes directly to student success by fostering safe, effective, and student-centered flight training experiences in both ground and flight environments.

    Qualifications:

    • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating
    • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) with Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII)
    • Minimum of 500 total flight hours
    • Some faculty may hold Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) rating
    • Associate's degree or higher preferred (or equivalent professional experience)

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of FAA regulations, flight training standards, and aviation safety procedures
    • Ability to provide effective flight, simulator, and ground instruction
    • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and diverse educational environment
    • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills in dynamic aviation settings
    • Proficiency in aviation training systems, flight planning tools, and standard computer applications
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
    • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in high-responsibility environments
    • Knowledge of aviation subject matter and instructional best practices
    • Understanding of student learning processes and adaptability to diverse learning needs
    • Commitment to student-centered, integrative teaching strategies
    • Ability to incorporate instructional technology and simulation into training
    • Experience in assessing student performance and adjusting instructional methods accordingly
    • Ability to develop curriculum and instructional materials in alignment with FAA and program standards
    • Experience mentoring, advising, and supporting students
    • Engagement in professional development to maintain currency in aviation and instructional methodology

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Conduct flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with FAA regulations and institutional policies
    • Accept and teach courses and flight assignments based on varied schedules and instructional modalities
    • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements
    • Maintain responsibility for FAA compliance, program approval requirements, and related documentation to ensure the aviation program remains aligned with applicable federal aviation regulations, certification standards, and institutional requirements
    • Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for diverse student populations and learning environments
    • Prepare and deliver instruction aligned with program curriculum and learning outcomes
    • Communicate regularly with students and college personnel, including timely responses to communications
    • Evaluate student flight performance and academic progress using established standards
    • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student development and certification readiness
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date training records, flight logs, and student documentation
    • Monitor and certify student progress toward FAA certifications and ratings
    • Maintain a safe and effective training environment in aircraft, simulators, and classrooms
    • Assist with the continuous improvement of curriculum, training procedures, and program effectiveness
    • Participate in assessment of student learning outcomes and institutional performance measures
    • Engage in professional development to maintain instructional and aviation proficiency
    • Accept assignments at additional locations, including dual credit or off-site training as needed

    Salary:

    Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
