Summary:

The Chief Inspector is responsible for the overall administration of the inspection function within the Willis Engine Repair Center. This role ensures that all inspections, tests, and quality control procedures are performed in accordance with FAA, EASA, and company requirements. The Chief Inspector provides leadership to inspection personnel, oversees quality assurance programs, and ensures that the company's maintenance and repair operations meet the highest standards of airworthiness and safety. This position works closely with the Director of Quality, Director of Maintenance, Lead Inspector(s), Production Planning, and Maintenance Lead(s) to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across all inspection activities. Promotes "Process Improvement" within the team and is self-motivated driven by results, achievement and in meeting goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the inspection of all incoming and outgoing engines, components, and materials to ensure compliance with FAA, EASA, and Willis Lease quality standards.
  • Ensure that all engines and components meet airworthiness and quality control requirements prior to release to service under applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain inspection procedures, ensuring alignment with company manuals, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Coordinate the assignment and scheduling of inspection personnel to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow.
  • Review and approve inspection documentation, test reports, and maintenance records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Lead internal audits, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive action initiatives to maintain regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the principal liaison with FAA, EASA, and other aviation regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and certification reviews.
  • Ensure inspection personnel are properly trained, qualified, and current on all required authorizations and certifications.
  • Verify that only serviceable parts and materials are installed in engines and components undergoing maintenance and repair.
  • Promote a culture of quality, compliance, and accountability within the inspection team.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to inspectors, fostering professional growth and adherence to company values.
  • Participate in management meetings to discuss inspection findings, quality trends, and recommendations for process improvement.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current FAA Airworthiness Directives, service bulletins, and manufacturer manuals relevant to engine maintenance and repair.
  • Support the Director of Quality in developing reports, metrics, and performance indicators for inspection and quality functions.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Aviation Maintenance, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License required.
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in aircraft and/or jet engine maintenance, with at least 5 years in a leadership or inspection supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of CFM56-5B, CFM56-7B, and V2500 engine models preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of FAA, EASA, and manufacturer regulations, maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and quality control systems.
  • Experience developing and managing inspection programs within a Part 145 Repair Station environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and repair shop management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Demonstrate leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments to ensure efficiency and compliance.
