Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
Entity: Cornerstone Practice Management (MSO), serving Frost Law
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer (dotted line to Managing Partner)
Location: Annapolis, MD (primary) — with responsibility across nationwide offices
The Opportunity
Cornerstone Practice Management is the management services organization powering Frost Law, a national tax controversy practice. We are building a modern, data-driven, AI-first professional services platform, and we are hiring our first Chief Marketing Officer to own brand, demand generation, and market positioning across the enterprise.
This is not a communications or collateral role. The CMO is a member of the executive leadership team, accountable for translating firm growth objectives into a measurable marketing and client-acquisition engine, and for building the brand of a national tax controversy leader across three markets and multiple practice areas.
What You'll Own
Growth and Demand Generation
- Build and run a full-funnel client acquisition engine, from awareness through qualified intake, measured on cost-per-acquisition, pipeline contribution, and marketing-sourced revenue.
- Own the marketing technology stack, with HubSpot CRM at the center, including lead scoring, contact classification by practice area, campaign attribution, and pipeline reporting.
- Partner closely with Business Development and the intake team to ensure marketing-qualified leads convert; align on shared metrics and a single view of the funnel.
Brand and Positioning
- Define and steward the Frost Law brand as a national tax controversy authority, differentiated against mid-tier tax boutiques and Big Four/national competitors.
- Own thought leadership, content strategy, digital presence, and the firm's website, including SEO and the client-facing narrative across practice areas.
- Manage awards, rankings, media, and reputation programs that build institutional credibility.
Team and Budget
- Build, lead, and develop the marketing function, including an in-house creative team (design, content, digital), setting structure, hiring, and managing both staff and external vendors (SEO, agencies, design, events).
- Own the marketing budget with full P&L accountability; report performance and ROI to firm leadership on a regular cadence.
Compliance-First Marketing
- Ensure all marketing and web content complies with attorney advertising and solicitation rules across every operating jurisdiction (Maryland, Arizona, Texas) and any market the firm enters.
- Partner with legal/ethics to maintain a defensible compliance framework for all client-facing content.
AI-First Execution
- Champion an AI-first approach to marketing operations, including content production, campaign optimization, analytics, and personalization, consistent with the firm's broader AI enablement strategy.
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- A single, instrumented funnel from first touch to signed engagement, with attribution live in HubSpot.
- A clarified, consistent national brand and positioning framework deployed across all three markets.
- A compliant, high-performing website driving measurable qualified intake.
- Defined marketing KPIs and a reporting rhythm the leadership team trusts to make growth decisions.
Who You Are
- 8+ years in marketing leadership, including direct law firm experience (tax, accounting, or financial services a strong plus). You understand how marketing works inside a partnership and within attorney advertising constraints.
- Proven experience building and managing a creative team, including designers, content, and digital talent, and getting high-quality, on-brand output from them consistently.
- Demonstrated ownership of a revenue-accountable, data-driven marketing function, not just brand or communications.
- Already uses AI tools in your day-to-day marketing work, for content production, campaign optimization, analytics, or creative, and can show how you've put them into practice. This is a firm operating on an AI-first philosophy; fluency is expected, not aspirational.
- Deep, hands-on fluency with marketing technology and CRM (HubSpot strongly preferred), analytics, and attribution.
- Working knowledge of attorney advertising / bar compliance rules, or the judgment and discipline to build that capability quickly.
- Comfortable operating in a partnership structure, able to build consensus among attorneys and practice leaders while driving accountability.
- An operator's mindset: structured, metrics-first, and biased toward execution.
Why This Role
You will build the marketing function of a growing national firm from a position of executive authority, with a modern operating platform behind you and a leadership team that treats marketing as a growth driver, not a cost center.
Cornerstone Practice Management is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to a workplace free of discrimination and to providing reasonable accommodations throughout the recruiting process.
