Title: Chief School Resource Officer

Qualifications:

3. Meet Mississippi State Law Certification and State Law Enforcement Criteria

4. Good organizational and communication skills (oral and written)

5. Such other qualifications as may be set by the administration

Reports to: Superintendent or designee

Job Goal: To provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students and personnel of the Laurel School District and work to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the Laurel School District community.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities: Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including, but are not limited to:

1. Supervise School Resource Officer

2. Conforms to all state laws and regulations regarding law enforcement 3. Recruits and supervises all law enforcement personnel hired by the School District to assist in carrying out the duties of this office

3. Responsible for supervision of crowd control at all sporting events and extracurricular activities

4. Responsible for reviewing results of background checks of intended employees that may have raised questions

5. Responsible for checking affidavits of students living within the district 7. Responsible for checking affidavits of students living outside the district 8. Responsible for directing traffic flow around schools when needed

6. Develops and maintains an office friendly program in the School District

7. Attends all required meetings

8. Responsible for investigating any acts of theft, violence, or other acts that disrupts the operation and decorum of the schools

9. Administers the budget for the Laurel School Police Department

10. Develops recommendations for future needs and improvements concerning district safety and security

11. Submits all reports as required by the Laurel School District and the State of Mississippi

12. Keeps current any and all certification standards as required by the Laurel School District and the State of Mississippi

13. Administers routine drug inspections throughout the school district with the district and local K-9 units

14. Administers drug education seminars throughout the district

15. Responsible for NCIC

16. Complete the 40 hour MDE school Resource officer training after being hired to work for the Laurel School District

17. Work to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the Laurel School District and community

18. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance

19. Supports the Laurel School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan

20. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent may from time to time assign.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

Scope of Work:

To support the Mission and Beliefs of the District when carrying out duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Payscale:

Pay and work year will be established by the Board of Trustees
