Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) is a world-renowned non-profit that is breaking the cycle of generational poverty for more than 22,500 children and adults in Central Harlem and millions more across the nation. HCZ walks hand-in-hand with young people and their families from cradle-to-college-through career. From our work with public school students and our Promise Academy charter schools, to our Healthy Harlem wellness initiative, to our family support programs—HCZ goes beyond education to provide children with the academic, personal, and career support they need to stay on the path to becoming self-sustaining, successful adults. No other organization uses such a comprehensive and holistic place-based approach to fighting poverty.
With a generation of proof, our innovative work over the decades has achieved unprecedented results with measurable economic and social impact in Harlem and beyond. We are a preeminent thought leader in the education, youth development, and anti-poverty fields, informing policy and advocating for change at the local, state, and national levels. Called by President Obama “one of the most successful anti-poverty programs in history,” we are sharing what we have learned with communities around the country and the world, inspiring widespread replication and changing the lives of millions beyond Harlem.
The Baby College is a program that addresses the needs of children between the ages of 0-3, and is a critical piece of our early intervention work. It is our goal to provide these residents both a range of information and the support necessary to raise happy and healthy children who enter school ready to learn.
We are seeking Childcare Workers with early childhood (infants- 5 years) and/or school age (6-12) childcare experience to implement lesson plans as well as manage activities for children and parents who participate in The Baby College program.

Opened in 2004, HCZ Promise Academy Charter Schools serves over 1,800 children in two K-12 schools. Our mission is to provide a first-rate, year-round, extended-day K-12 school for students living in under-performing school districts. When students enter our schools, we make a promise to help each and every one get to and through college. Everything we give our students—from world-class instruction and exceptional extracurricular activities to social emotional support and healthy meals—is aimed at fulfilling that promise. Our schools have a longer school day and year, helping us keep our kids safe and engaged, ensure their success in core subject areas, and give them an immersive, well-balanced education that includes exposure to the arts, daily physical activity, and field trips to museums, performances, sporting events and, of course, college campuses.
In addition, our Promise curriculum includes grade-appropriate character education, helping students at every level build crucial non-cognitive skills such as resilience, grit, and curiosity. We also provide on-site medical, dental, and psychological services, as well as a healthy, freshly made breakfast, lunch and snack each day. Plus, the vast majority of our students participate in our after-school programs, where they receive extensive academic support and engage in a wide range of recreation and enrichment activities.
Not only do our students receive a high-quality, standards-based education, but they and their families also have access to HCZ’s comprehensive network of supports, including counseling, benefits assistance, and other social services. HCZ Promise Academy Charter Schools are rooted in the belief that all students are capable of academic and personal success when they are surrounded by parents, teachers, and mentors who provide support and maintain the highest of expectations.
