Chorus Teacher

Job Summary

The Chorus Teacher provides vocal music instruction that develops students' musical knowledge, vocal performance skills, and appreciation for music. The role plans and delivers standards-based instruction in music theory, vocal techniques, rehearsals, and performance preparation while fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence. The teacher also organizes performances, manages music resources, and collaborates with students, families, and school staff to support student success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach vocal music, music appreciation, music theory, and choral performance.
• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards.
• Provide whole-group, small-group, and individualized music instruction.
• Teach vocal techniques, music literacy, and rehearsal strategies.
• Assess student progress in musical skills, participation, and performance.
• Plan, rehearse, and direct concerts, recitals, and school/community performances.
• Encourage student participation in music programs and activities.
• Maintain music classrooms, instruments, sheet music, and instructional equipment.
• Coordinate basic maintenance and inventory of musical instruments and materials.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, support staff, and parents to support student achievement.
• Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, and school-related activities.
• Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school programs.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education (Vocal or Instrumental) or equivalent coursework for teacher licensure.
• Eligible for or currently holding a valid Virginia Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.
• Knowledge of vocal music instruction, music theory, and music education practices.
• Expertise in vocal performance and music pedagogy.
• Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, and staff.
• Current Tuberculin (TB) screening confirming the absence of contagious tuberculosis.
• Ability to work in classroom, rehearsal, and performance environments.
