AmeriCorps Volunteers serve as mentors and facilitators, leading structured STEM, literacy, and social-emotional learning (SEL) activities at school sites during out-of-school time. In addition to supporting education, some Volunteers will engage in community initiatives focused on disaster preparedness and environmental stewardship. These include delivering age-appropriate emergency readiness education and leading sustainability efforts like environmental education projects. Volunteers are trained in youth development, behavior management, and content delivery to ensure high-quality engagement with students. Volunteers serve in underserved schools, helping improve student connection, participation, and confidence in learning. This program provides meaningful service experiences while building leadership, teamwork, and professional skills for members. Participants gain hands-on experience in education and civic engagement. Member Duties : AmeriCorps Volunteers will lead STEM, literacy, and social-emotional learning (SEL) activities in before and afterschool programs at Henderson elementary schools. Volunteers will provide homework help, facilitate enrichment lessons, and mentor students to boost academic engagement and confidence. In addition, some Volunteers will support community initiatives by delivering disaster preparedness education and leading environmental stewardship projects, such as school gardens and sustainability lessons. Volunteers will receive training in youth development, behavior management, and program content to ensure high-quality service and meaningful student interactions.
