JOB TITLE: Civil Drafter
LOCATION: Austin, TX preferred. Open to Seattle, SFO, or NYC (30% travel required)
DURATION: FTE Direct Hire
SALARY RANGE: $144K $189K/year plus equity
The Data Center Design Team
Examples of key problems the team is working on:
Lead the design, development, and execution of 10s to 100s of GWs of data centers this decade.
Drive the next generation of liquid cooling and electrical distribution systems.
Develop and scale first-of-a-kind modular data centers.
Influence behind-the-meter designs and planning for multi-GW campuses.
Role Scope:
Produce civil drawing sets for data center site development: grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, and site plans, from engineer redlines to issued-for-construction.
Turn drawing revisions around within a day during permitting and construction, when a submittal date or an open RFI is waiting on the sheet.
Build and maintain the civil CAD standards (templates, layers, detail library) so every site's drawing set is consistent, and the next project starts ahead.
Coordinate civil sheets against structural and architectural models to catch clashes on paper before they cost time in the field.
Prepare permit exhibits, plats, and agency-requested revisions that keep submittals moving without pulling engineers off design work.
What We're Looking For
You've drafted civil construction documents in Civil 3D or AutoCAD that were issued for construction and built from.
You've built surfaces, grading, corridors, and pipe networks in Civil 3D yourself, from survey data to finished sheets.
You've turned engineer redlines into finished sheets on same-day deadlines and kept the set consistent while doing it.
You keep drawing sets internally airtight: callouts resolve, matchlines align, and every referenced detail exists.
You've worked deadlines where a missed submittal slips a permit, and the sheet was ready.
You've set up or maintained CAD standards that other drafters followed.
Bonus: Data center, industrial, or utility-scale solar site work. Revit or Navisworks coordination.
Survey data processing. Permit exhibit and plat preparation. Erosion control and SWPPP drawing experience.
Required:
5+ years of experience preparing civil engineering drawing packages for land development, industrial facilities, utility infrastructure, data centers, manufacturing campuses, or large commercial projects.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and experience creating construction documents, grading plans, drainage plans, utility plans, erosion control plans, and site development drawing packages.
Experience developing surfaces, grading models, pipe networks, alignments, profiles, corridors, and utility systems from survey and engineering data.
Experience preparing permit-ready and issued-for-construction (IFC) drawing packages from engineer redlines and design markups.
Experience maintaining drawing revisions and supporting rapid turnarounds during permitting, construction, and RFI cycles.
Experience reviewing drawing sets for completeness, consistency, constructability, and quality control before release.
Experience coordinating civil drawings with structural, architectural, utility, and MEP disciplines to identify and resolve conflicts.
Strong understanding of grading, drainage, site utilities, stormwater systems, easements, and site-development construction documentation.
Experience preparing exhibits, permit packages, plan revisions, agency responses, and construction support documents.
Experience supporting SWPPP plans, erosion control layouts, stormwater compliance drawings, and environmental permitting packages.
Experience with Civil 3D automation, template creation, standards management, and workflow optimization.
Experience supporting multi-state developments and fast-track construction programs.
Knowledge of grading optimization, stormwater management, utility coordination, and constructability review processes.
Associate's degree, technical certification, or formal training in Civil Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, CAD Design, or related discipline.
