Civil Litigation Associate Attorney

We are seeking a Civil Litigation Associate Attorney to join an established Chicago litigation practice.

We are looking for an attorney with approximately 2–6 years of litigation experience who has developed strong litigation fundamentals and is ready to continue taking on meaningful responsibility.

This opportunity is intentionally open to attorneys from a variety of civil litigation backgrounds. Insurance defense, tort litigation, professional liability, medical malpractice, commercial litigation, municipal/government defense, civil rights, construction, and other civil defense experience can all translate well to this role.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on litigation position for an attorney who wants substantive involvement in their cases rather than a narrowly defined supporting role.

Depending on experience, responsibilities may include:

• Managing an active caseload and developing case strategy
• Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other substantive filings
• Handling written discovery and document production
• Taking and defending depositions
• Preparing clients and witnesses for deposition and trial
• Working directly with expert witnesses
• Drafting and arguing dispositive motions
• Appearing regularly for hearings, conferences, and other court proceedings
• Participating in arbitrations, mediations, and settlement negotiations
• Preparing complex matters for trial
• Second-chairing and handling trials as experience allows
• Communicating directly with clients throughout the litigation process

What We're Looking For

• Approximately 2–6 years of civil litigation experience
• Experience independently handling substantive aspects of litigation matters
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Experience with discovery, depositions, and motion practice
• Ability to develop case strategy and manage deadlines
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills
• Comfortable working directly with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel
• Illinois Bar admission

We are particularly interested in attorneys who have already begun taking ownership of their cases and want an environment where they can continue developing as litigators and trial attorneys.

A strong civil litigator with transferable skills will be considered even if their current practice has been concentrated in only one or two areas.
