Job Description

Otak is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Engineering Designer who takes pride in quality work and is inspired to create sustainable infrastructure that strengthens our communities.

You will contribute to a wide range of projects for municipal, state, federal, and private clients, including roadway and streetscape design, intersection improvements, signal design, bridges and structures, utility improvements, and site/civil projects in national parks and on corporate campuses. Nearly half of our workload focuses on active transportation, including soft- and hard-surface trails, on- and off-street paths, pedestrian underpasses, and pedestrian bridges. From design through construction, we take pride in developing creative solutions that are environmentally sensitive and aesthetically pleasing.

As part of Otak's integrated, multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, surveyors, and support staff who share a commitment to innovative, thoughtful design.

How You'll Contribute

  • Perform civil design related to roadway and site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion control in conformance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist Project Engineers in preparing construction plans for roadway, water and sanitary sewer, active transportation, and pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure using AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
  • Perform civil design calculations, sketches, and technical evaluations.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates and technical specifications.
  • Provide construction support, including responding to contractor RFIs, reviewing submittals and as-built drawings, and conducting field observations.
  • Support project delivery through proposal development, project setup, quality control, and coordination with project teams.

The Strengths You Bring

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 2-4 years of professional experience, with an emphasis on civil design for transportation infrastructure, active transportation, or land development.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successfully passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination is required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D or similar design software. Experience with MicroStation/OpenRoads preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Salary Range: $78,000 - $100,000
