Claims Analyst I – Subrogation & Liability Claims
Location: San Diego, CA
Employment Type: 2-year W2 Assignment
Pay Rate: $31–$33/hour
Work Schedule: Hybrid – Monday through Thursday onsite, Friday remote
Hours: Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Claims Analyst I to support claims investigation, liability analysis, and recovery/subrogation activities for a leading utility company. This position is responsible for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving claims involving property damage, third-party liability, and recovery of company losses.

The ideal candidate will have experience in claims administration, casualty claims, insurance investigations, or subrogation, along with strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate, analyze, and resolve recovery, subrogation, liability, and property damage claims.
• Evaluate claims to determine liability, damages, recovery opportunities, and appropriate resolutions.
• Gather and review evidence, including incident reports, photographs, statements, invoices, and supporting documentation.
• Interview customers, claimants, witnesses, insurance representatives, and other involved parties.
• Pursue financial recovery from responsible third parties for damage to company property and infrastructure.
• Negotiate claim settlements with customers, insurance carriers, attorneys, and third-party representatives.
• Manage claims within established settlement authority limits of up to $15,000.
• Maintain accurate claim files, investigation notes, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare written claim evaluations, settlement recommendations, and status updates.
• Coordinate with internal departments, legal teams, insurance representatives, and external stakeholders.
• Assist with claim setup, tracking, reporting, and administrative claim management activities.
• Manage multiple active claims while meeting deadlines and ensuring timely resolution.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in claims administration, claims investigation, liability analysis, or case management.
• Experience evaluating liability, investigating incidents, and determining appropriate claim resolutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to navigate difficult conversations professionally.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously.
• Ability to independently investigate claims, analyze evidence, and make sound recommendations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic documentation or case management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience handling subrogation, recovery, or multi-line casualty claims.
• Background in property damage, general liability, auto liability, or commercial insurance claims.
• Experience negotiating settlements and working directly with insurance carriers or attorneys.
• Familiarity with claims involving utility infrastructure, construction activities, or third-party property damage.
• Experience managing claims from initial investigation through final resolution.
