The Executive Liability Division is searching for a Claims Representative or Senior Claims Representative, depending on background and experience. The person hired for this position will work from the Schaumburg, IL office. Great American's culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. This is a hybrid role that combines 3 days in-office and 2 days remote work. Employees are expected to maintain a meaningful on-site presence to support collaboration, relationship building, and business success.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

As a member of our Claims Department, you will be responsible for handling an inventory of claim files.  Duties may include:

• Demonstrates functional analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills; ability to organize and prioritize caseload; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Performs detailed analysis of each claim.
• Evaluates coverage and liability, issues written coverage opinions and monitors all aspects of the file while working toward resolution of the claim; including hiring, monitoring and paying defense counsel.
• Develops and implements claim litigation and resolution strategies.
• Maintains accurate and detailed claim files, including all correspondence, reports and settlement agreements.
• Provides information to underwriters and reinsurers on specific claims or insureds and legal trends and issues which affect the business.
• Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, records, or other documents) in the investigation of claims.
• Attends arbitrations or mediations as necessary.
• May affect settlements / reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations where applicable.
• Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
• Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.
• May provide technical advice to other functional areas.
• Maintains necessary adjuster licenses.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, Associate degree, or equivalent experience.
• Generally, 6 months to 7 years of experience handling casualty claims (including litigated claims) and/or experience as a paralegal or legal professional supporting civil litigation.
• Paralegal certificate, legal experience, or equivalent claims experience preferred.
• Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims.

$58,000.00 -$89,000.00
