Position Summary

The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for performing diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on Class-8 tractors, container chassis, and port/intermodal equipment. This role requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to work independently, and a high level of accountability in maintaining equipment reliability and operational readiness.


Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs on Class-8 diesel trucks, including mechanical, electrical, air, suspension, and emissions systems
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, BIT inspections, and general services in accordance with company and DOT standards
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain container chassis, including brakes, electrical systems, suspensions, air systems, landing gear, and structural components.
  • Perform welding and light fabrication on chassis and tractor components (MIG preferred)
  • Troubleshoot and repair engine fault codes, DEF/DPF/SCR systems, fuel systems, and after-treatment systems
  • Perform repairs on brakes, axles, hubs, tires, clutches, transmissions, and driveline components
  • Use diagnostic software and scan tools to identify and resolve technical issues
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, inspection forms, and repair records
  • Track, manage, and maintain inventory of shop supplies, parts, and consumables
  • Ensure all equipment meets DOT, FMCSA, CARB, and port compliance requirements
  • Communicate repair status, downtime expectations, and parts needs to management
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas
  • Support fleet inspections, yard safety checks, and equipment readiness for daily dispatch operations
Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic on Class-8 trucks
  • Hands-on experience working with Freightliner and International tractors
  • Strong familiarity with Detroit Diesel and Cummins engines
  • Proficiency in repairing and maintaining container chassis
  • Welding experience (MIG; ability to perform light to moderate fabrication work)
  • Strong understanding of diesel emissions systems (DEF, DPF, SCR, EGR)
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and software
  • Knowledge of DOT, BIT, and CARB compliance standards
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage repair priorities
  • Experience in port drayage equipment or intermodal fleet maintenance preferred but not required
  • Must be able to lift, bend, crouch, and work in an active shop environment
Compensation
*This is a 1099 Contractor role*

  • $1,250 - $1,400 weekly, depending on experience and technical skill
Schedule
  • Monday through Friday
  • Occasional Saturdays as needed
  • Start time flexible based on skills and operational needs
