Bi-Lingual Spanish Elementary Education Teacher position available for start of 2026-27 school year at public charter school in Norwalk, CT:

Side by Side Charter School, an innovative, diverse, regional public charter school in Norwalk seeks a well-qualified Bi-lingual Spanish/Elementary Education teacher (certificate #902) to join our tight-knit, energetic team. In this role, you will offer a bi-lingual program to our Spanish-speaking students. You will also plan instruction for non-native speakers in grades K-8 utilizing the Connecticut English Language Proficiency Standards (CELPS). A key role for this position is to support teachers as they strive to engage in best practices with their English language learners in the general education classroom. As a teacher in our school, you'll create individualized learning plans based on each student's needs and evaluate their learning progress, including the annual LAS Links assessment which is administered statewide each year in Connecticut. A key part of your role will also be to build positive relationships with parents in order to help them advocate for and understand their student's progress.

Responsibilities

• Offer bi-lingual instruction to Spanish speaking students
• Prepare lessons and materials for classroom and small group implementation
• Work with teachers to co-assess students' progress in learning English
• Create individualized plans for students based on the CELP standards.
• Stay abreast of new teaching methods for teaching English as a second language
• Inform parents about student progress
• Independently plan and manage a service schedule for K-8 students
• Collaborate with staff and families to provide a positive learning experience to students

Requirements

• Elementary Bi-lingual/Spanish (#902) preferred, TESOL certification (#111) considered
• Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers
• Great organizational and communication skills
• Sensitive to and supportive of the needs of newly arrived immigrants
• A strong desire to work in a small, collaborative environment
