Job Description:

This is a full-time special education teaching position at a K-8 Catholic school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Special Education Support:

  • Demonstrate expertise in supporting and implementing services for students with special education needs.
  • Deliver direct academic and behavioral interventions to students as needed.
  • Communicate individual student educational plans effectively to all members of the educational team.
  • Observe and assess student behavior, collaborating with staff and families to develop and implement individualized learning and behavior support strategies.
  • Work with individual students and/or small groups to support personalized learning plans.
  • Provide consultation and support to staff regarding the implementation of instructional strategies and accommodations.
  • Collect, organize, and share data with the local public school team for evaluations and the creation of Service Plans.
  • Represent the school and its students by attending Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings.

Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with school and diocesan curriculum objectives to meet stated goals.
  • Exhibit a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter while effectively communicating content to students.
  • Organize classroom activities and materials to maximize learning time and foster student engagement.
  • Use a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adapt instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members, including grade-level teams and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), to assess and improve curriculum and instructional practices.

Professional and Community Engagement:

  • Actively participate in professional development through seminars, workshops, and educational publications to remain current in the field.
  • Encourage parental involvement in the educational process and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on school committees as needed.

Classroom Management and Discipline:

  • Establish and maintain high standards for student behavior, promoting self-direction and positive self-image.
  • Address inappropriate behavior effectively and consistently, adhering to school and diocesan policies.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate professionalism by adhering to diocesan and school policies, maintaining confidentiality, and exercising sound judgment.
  • Model appropriate behavior, including professional dress and conduct.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or the Office of the Superintendent of Schools.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid certification in Special Education.
  • Teaching experience in a Catholic school setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • Masters degree in a related field.
