Responsibilities

The Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, invites applications for a medical physicist position with a focus on Computed Tomography.

The successful candidate will join the Division of Medical Physics, which serves the Department of Radiology and the broader Mayo Clinic enterprise, and will work alongside a group of over 20 medical physicists and over 250 radiologists. This position offers the opportunity to contribute across the full breadth of CT physics - from clinical service and protocol optimization to technology development, innovation, and translational research.

POSITION FOCUS

The CT physics group supports a large, diverse CT practice across Mayo Clinic Midwest, including Rochester and the Mayo Clinic Health System. The practice includes scanners from multiple vendors and supports routine diagnostic imaging, advanced imaging applications, image-guided procedures, and specialized clinical services.

The successful candidate will help advance safe, high-quality, and efficient CT imaging while contributing to the clinical implementation and evaluation of emerging technology, including photon-counting detector CT and advanced reconstruction, quantitative imaging, and AI-enabled tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Short-term responsibilities include:

  • Support CT quality assurance, acceptance testing, protocol development and optimization, radiation-dose management, and image-quality evaluation.
  • Provide clinical physics support for CT services in Rochester (Primarily) and the Mayo Clinic Health Systems. The position is in Rochester, with occasional travel to Mayo Clinic Health Systems.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, information technology teams, engineers, and vendors to resolve technical issues and implement practical improvements.
  • Support CT applications used in routine diagnostic imaging, image-guided procedures, and related ancillary equipment.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the Division of Medical Physics.

Long-term opportunities include:

  • Lead and support the clinical deployment of new CT technology, including photon-counting CT, hardware and software upgrades, and novel clinical applications.
  • Develop and translate innovative CT methods into clinical practice across the Mayo Clinic enterprise.
  • Conduct independent or collaborative research aligned with the candidate's interests and the group's strategic priorities. The CT physics group has active opportunities for research and innovation. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop new ideas, collaborate with clinical and technical partners, and translate promising methods into patient care.
  • Support Mayo Clinic's mission in patient care, education, and research through technical innovation and mentorship.

Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in medical physics, physics, biomedical engineering, or a closely related discipline, with training or demonstrated expertise in diagnostic imaging physics.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in diagnostic medical physics.
  • A strong interest in CT imaging, clinical translation, technology development, and collaborative practice.
  • Excellent communication, project-planning, scientific-writing, teaching, and team-development skills.

Compensation Detail

The minimum starting salary for Medical specialties may range from $136,643 - $280,250. This range reflects full-time total base compensation prior to consideration of additional experience or duties. Pay for the selected candidate will vary based on specialty, experience, FTE, internal equity, or external market data.
