Position Summary
Unity Health Care is seeking an experienced and strategic Nurse Manager for Healthcare for the Homeless (HCH) to provide nursing leadership and operational oversight across the HCH program.
The Nurse Manager will oversee nursing staffing, clinical systems, quality and safety, compliance, and daily operations across CCNV Community Health Center, Homeless Outreach sites, and Medical Respite programs. This role will lead a multidisciplinary nursing team, including RNs, LPNs, MAs, and CNAs, while collaborating closely with the HCH leadership team, clinical leadership, Human Resources, Finance, Quality Improvement, and Unity executive leadership.
The ideal candidate will bring strong nursing leadership, program management, and operational experience, along with a commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee nursing staffing across CCNV, Homeless Outreach, and Medical Respite programs.
- Develop and maintain flexible, competent, and highly responsive nursing teams to meet program needs.
- Manage daily staffing and scheduling, including redeploying staff as needed across HCH locations.
- Conduct regular on-site visits to assess nursing operations, practices, policies, safety, and quality.
- Develop, implement, and monitor nursing systems that support safe and efficient care delivery.
- Oversee medical supplies, vaccines, emergency equipment, ordering, storage, and related expenses.
- Monitor nursing-to-provider staffing ratios and proactively address vacancies, staffing needs, and operational efficiencies.
- Provide orientation, coaching, mentorship, competency development, and performance management for nursing staff.
- Conduct and oversee chart audits, safety audits, and environmental-of-care reviews.
- Ensure nursing services comply with Unity policies and procedures and applicable regulatory and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and clinical leadership regarding employee performance, disciplinary matters, and performance improvement plans.
- Establish and facilitate regular HCH nursing team meetings.
- Develop and monitor individual and team performance goals.
- Partner with Quality Improvement leadership to monitor program processes, outcomes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with the HCH leadership team and Finance on annual budget development and monitoring.
- Monitor the performance of HCH programs against key quality, operational, and outcome indicators.
- Help ensure appropriate contract services are available to support safe and effective operations across HCH sites.
- Support seasonal vaccination outreach and disease-specific vaccination initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic planning and governance for the HCH program in collaboration with HCH and Unity executive leadership.
- Support grant-related initiatives and compliance requirements applicable to Healthcare for the Homeless programs.
- Prepare and provide weekly and monthly reports to Unity leadership as requested.
- Serve on committees and participate in organization-wide nursing and quality initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the District of Columbia.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, or another related healthcare field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of management and supervisory experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing public health programs serving vulnerable populations.
- Current BLS or CPR certification.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staffing, clinical operations, quality, compliance, and program priorities in a complex healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders and/or untreated mental health conditions.
- Five or more years of clinical experience in an FQHC or ambulatory care setting.
- Experience staffing complex healthcare programs.
- Experience managing healthcare supply chains and medical inventory.
- Knowledge of Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and team-based care models.
- Working knowledge of NCQA and Joint Commission standards.
