The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University''s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Clinical Research Assistant supports clinical, patient-oriented research within the Department of Anesthesiology. The position reports to the Principal Investigator (PI), with accountability to the Department Administrator or designate. The individual will organize and carry out day-to-day research activities for the PI, including the ALPACA study and other commercial, publicly funded, and investigator-initiated clinical studies.

This is a full-time, research-funded position. Continuation of the position in future funding periods is contingent upon the continued availability of research funding.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day-to-day aspects of study protocol tasks including participant recruitment, screening, enrollment and follow-up with study participants, specimen processing and other key elements under some supervision.
  • Effectively communicate, build, and maintain relationships with potential study subjects, participants, clinicians, other health care providers, sponsors, monitors and research office staff to support the successful administration of clinical trials.
  • Complete data entry activities with little supervision. Data entry may include Protected Health Information (PHI), clinical and billing or other administrative data.
  • Maintain accurate and complete clinical research files, which may include the administration of questionnaires, the completion of case report forms (CRFs), and all study start-up and close-out documentation.
  • Prepare data reports and perform periodic auditing of data, certifications, and reporting materials to ensure compliance with university, sponsor and federal processes.
  • Adhere to workplace and patient safety protocols, monitor the area to ensure compliance with ethical and safety standards for research.
  • Maintain supply inventory and request additional supplies as needed.
  • Use tools and reporting mechanisms to track progress, identify trends, and ensure timely communication of issues and status.
  • Coordinate research team meetings, investigator check-ins, sponsor visits, and external audits.
  • Participate in assigned team projects and initiatives.
  • Successfully complete all required university and department trainings and certifications.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and experience required.
  • Must possess critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to interact and collaborate positively, constructively and effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and successfully as a part of a team in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-3 years equivalent in education, training and experience in a relevant clinical research field.
  • Phlebotomy-certified or willingness to become certified within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Previous clinical, patient-oriented research experience.
  • Experience working in acute-care environments, such as the ICU, operating room, emergency department or inpatient units.
  • Experience with biological specimen collection and handling, including centrifugation, aliquoting, freezer storage and shipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple studies, competing priorities, and time-sensitive protocol requirements.
