About this Job:

MedStar Washington Hospital Center is seeking an experienced CVOR nurse to serve as Clinical Specialist for the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR).  This role is an opportunity to lead one of the region’s most advanced cardiac surgery programs while working within a nationally recognized academic health system committed to clinical excellence, innovation, and Magnet® nursing practice.

The Clinical Specialist for CVOR functions as a clinical expert for this specialty area. Uses a framework for professional evidence-based nursing practice within three spheres of influence: patient/family nursing and system/organization. Acts as a consultant to address complex patient care issues, provides guidance in prevention and management of patient care practice. Coordinates, coaches, educates and leads nursing staff in evidence-based clinical practice quality improvement and patient safety. Conducts, facilitates or applies research to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Position Overview

  • Builds trusting collaborative relationships with all members of the health care environment. Facilitates departmental nursing and other meetings as appropriate. Functions collaboratively and effectively with interdisciplinary teams. Accomplishes objectives through persuasion.
  • Serves as a collaborative source of clinical expertise and professional advice. Plays a significant role in developing maintaining and applying nursing standards, standard order sets, patient care protocols and policies and procedures in collaboration with health care team members.
  • Supports the patient care delivery model which is accountable for assessing the patient planning evaluating and modifying nursing care and treatment based on data obtained through observation interviewing and analysis of patient records.
  • Leads and manages a wide array of high visibility multidisciplinary projects aimed at improving hospital performance in areas including but not limited to infection prevention safety compliance regulatory and nursing practice. Functions as a facilitator and collaborator at the highest level in order to ensure the development and execution of action plans participation and engagement of committee participants and communication of successes and opportunities to executive leadership.
  • Collaborates with nursing education and management in the assessment of staff competencies and learning needs. Develops key educational materials to promote knowledge of changes to nursing practice facility initiatives and important project milestones. Assesses and analyzes data to identify practice environment and patient care issues to develop appropriate programs and change processes to improve clinical nursing practice.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of clinical specialty through a variety of professional activities including but not limited to research and study of literature and attending related seminars and conferences. Pursues continuous scholarly growth by engaging in innovative program work research papers/presentations at regional or national conferences publications and additional graduate work.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
  • Master's degree in Nursing required
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing Education or Healthcare Administration preferred

Experience

  • 5-7 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience in Nursing required
  • Experience with larger program that handles transplants, VAD’s, heart failure, aortic, robotic, congenital heart surgery experience a plus
  • Experience in nursing advanced practice role preferred

Licenses and Certifications

RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required

  • Specialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization within 1 Year required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
  • Health Services\ACLS required
This position has a hiring range of : USD $89,065.00 - USD $162,801.00 /Yr.
