About The Role:

Thrive Pet Healthcare is seeking a hands-on, people-focused Clinical Staff Manager to lead, coach, and support the medical support team within the hospital. This role is ideal for an experienced veterinary technician or clinical leader who is passionate about developing team members, improving hospital workflow, supporting high-quality patient care, and fostering a positive, collaborative culture.

The Clinical Staff Manager partners closely with the Hospital Administrator, Medical Director, doctors, and leadership team to ensure the technician and assistant teams are well-trained, appropriately scheduled, supported in their development, and aligned with hospital goals and Thrive's Core Values. A full-time position would require working between 30-40 hours a week, which includes a combination of day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Experience & Skills Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in veterinary medicine preferred; specialty, emergency, or high-volume hospital experience strongly preferred.
• 3-5 years of supervisory, lead, or management experience in veterinary medicine or a comparable healthcare environment preferred.
• Associate degree in veterinary technology preferred.
• Credentialed veterinary technician designation such as RVT, LVT, or CVT preferred.
• Strong technical skills and comfort supporting patient care, clinical workflow, and team training.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, coach, and develop team members.
• Excellent organization, prioritization, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with doctors, hospital leadership, team members, and pet parents.
• Strong customer service mindset with the ability to handle escalations professionally and calmly.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability.
• Comfortable with animal handling, basic husbandry, medication administration, and working in a clinical hospital environment.

Role Responsibilities:

• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop veterinary technicians, assistants, and clinical support team members.
• Provide onboarding, hands-on training, skills assessments, and individualized development plans for new and existing team members.
• Oversee technician and assistant schedules, PTO requests, shift coverage, call-outs, and timekeeping responsibilities.
• Partner with hospital leadership to maintain efficient workflow, appropriate staffing levels, and strong patient care support.
• Support interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and performance expectations for clinical support team members.
• Provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance support in partnership with the Hospital Administrator.
• Participate in leadership meetings, staff meetings, one-on-ones, training programs, and hospital planning initiatives.
• Help identify and resolve operational inefficiencies such as missed charges, late procedures, workflow gaps, or inappropriate staffing.
• Model and reinforce a respectful, inclusive, collaborative, and client-focused team culture.
• Assist on the hospital floor when needed to support patient care, team workflow, and hospital operations.
• Support development, implementation, and reinforcement of hospital policies, protocols, and best practices.
• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment in handling team member, client, and hospital matters.

Schedule and Work Environment

This is a full-time leadership role that requires a balance of hands-on floor support and administrative responsibilities. Flexibility is required to support hospital needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays, call-outs, and urgent coverage situations as needed. The role may require up to 10% travel.

The work environment includes both office and clinical hospital settings. Team members may be exposed to moderate noise, animal waste, odors, cleaning agents, and animal-related risks such as bites, scratches, or contagious diseases. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, communicate clearly, use office and hospital equipment, and lift up to 40 pounds.

About the Hospital

Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists Mansfield is staffed with emergency veterinarians and technicians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays. All emergency clinicians are well-versed in emergency procedures and surgery. We can perform emergency procedures and surgeries at any time of the day or night. We also provide medical oncology and radiation oncology, providing comprehensive cancer care under one roof.
