    Description

    Cloud Data Migration Engineer
Austin, TX Area | Hybrid | 12+ Month Contract
Must live in the Austin area

iSphere is looking for a Cloud Data Migration Engineer who enjoys taking complex legacy environments and moving them to the cloud with as little drama as possible. If you've planned a migration, executed the cutover, and still managed to sleep the night before go-live, we'd like to meet you.

This role is centered around migrating Oracle workloads to AWS while helping modernize enterprise data platforms. You'll work with architects, infrastructure teams, database administrators, and business stakeholders to build migration strategies that are reliable, secure, and designed to minimize downtime.

    What they're really looking for:

    • 8+ years designing, developing, or delivering enterprise technology solutions
    • Extensive experience migrating Oracle databases to AWS using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS)
    • Experience with full-load, Change Data Capture (CDC), and real-time data migration architectures
    • Strong knowledge of AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, VPNs, and Direct Connect
    • Experience with AWS services including EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and Lambda
    • Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform or CloudFormation
    • Strong background with ETL/ELT processes and cloud data integration
    • Scripting experience with Python, Bash, or PowerShell
    • Experience building migration plans, cutover strategies, rollback plans, and minimizing production downtime
    • Strong documentation and communication skills

Bonus points if you have experience with:

    • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or Database Specialty
    • Public sector or state government environments
    • Hybrid cloud environments and legacy application modernization

You'll spend your time planning migrations, building AWS infrastructure, coordinating data movement, validating results, and partnering with technical and business teams to ensure projects stay on track. You'll also help automate migration activities, monitor cloud environments, and document everything from technical designs to migration runbooks.

The right person for this role knows a successful migration isn't measured by how much data moved—it's measured by how little anyone notices it happened. They think through rollback plans before they need them, ask the hard questions during planning, and know that good preparation is what makes a weekend cutover feel routine.

If you enjoy solving complex cloud challenges, modernizing enterprise systems, and helping organizations take the next step in their cloud journey, we'd love to hear from you.
