Position Summary:

The K-12 Education Specialist position, under the guidance of the Garden's education managers, will support the coordination and facilitation of our NExT Step field trip program. In addition to facilitating field trips, duties include assisting with administrative tasks and inventory of program materials. The K-12 Education Specialist will be expected to implement positive behavior management while leading nature walks and structured classroom activities. The incumbent will assist with scheduling field trip facilitators and maintaining the booking calendar for field trips and self-guided tours while communicating with teachers and administrators. Lastly, the K-12 Education Specialist will be responsible for preparing supplies required for field trips and communicating to the Manager of K-12 Program when supplies are low.

Salary & Compensation: *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. • Excellent communication and customer service skills (written and verbal) (Required)
• Availability on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. (Required)
• Knowledge of MS office applications. (Required)
• Proficiency in writing, editing and proofreading varying types of English text. (Required)
• Knowledge of pedagogy and best practices in environmental education. (Preferred)
• High level of organization and attention to detail. (Required)
• Ability to walk on trails, traverse stairs and uneven terrain, and lift up to 50 pounds. (Required)
• Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures. (Required)
• Experience leading and teaching groups of students. (Required)
• Clerical experience relating to scheduling. (Preferred)
• Knowledge of local (Los Angeles County) birds, plants, wildlife, and California natural and cultural history encouraged. (Required)
• Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:
• Associate's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
• Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Preferred)
• Special Conditions of Employment:
• Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
• Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
• Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
