CNC Horizontal Lathe Operator, large components

A metal manufacturing company in the Chicago Metro Region is seeking an experienced CNC Horizontal Lathe Operator to machine large, heavy components. This is a hands-on setup and operating position.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC horizontal lathes.
• Machine large metal components to blueprint specifications.
• Load, indicate, secure, and position heavy workpieces.
• Perform tooling changes and make offset adjustments.
• Read blueprints and verify dimensions using precision measuring tools.
• Complete first-piece and in-process inspections.
• Monitor tooling, machine performance, and part quality.
• Use cranes, hoists, and material-handling equipment as needed.
• Follow safety and quality procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous CNC horizontal lathe operating experience.
• Experience machining large or heavy components required.
• Ability to perform machine setups and tooling changes.
• Strong blueprint-reading and measurement skills.
• Experience machining steel or other metals.
• CNC programming experience is not required.

Experience with gearboxes, shafts, rolls, forgings, castings, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, or other large-component machining is a plus.
