Job Details

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Set up and operate CNC lathes to manufacture custom components in a job shop environment.
Read and interpret blueprints, dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
Plan machining sequences and select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and workholding.
Complete job changeovers, including tooling installation, tool touch-offs, and setting tool and work offsets.
Review existing CNC programs and make appropriate edits and adjustments within the role’s programming responsibilities.
Prove out setups safely and inspect first pieces before completing the job.
Perform turning operations such as facing, outside- and inside-diameter machining, drilling, boring, threading, and grooving as required.
Adjust feeds, speeds, offsets, and tooling to achieve dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements.
Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other appropriate measuring equipment.
Troubleshoot dimensional variation, chatter, tool wear, workholding issues, and finish problems.
Move between different jobs while maintaining accuracy and meeting shop priorities.
Maintain setup information, inspection records, and an organized, safe work area.
Communicate machining issues and job requirements with shop leadership and coworkers.

Needed
Demonstrated machining ability; trade school or machining apprenticeship training is helpful. No specific degree or license requirement has been confirmed.
Suggested target: 3+ years of hands-on CNC lathe experience, including independent setups; consider candidates with equivalent demonstrated capability.
Experience in a job shop, custom machining, prototype, or short-run environment involving frequent setup changes.
Ability to set up CNC lathes, establish tooling and offsets, and produce an acceptable first piece.
Experience with Haas or Fanuc controls preferred; exact equipment requirements will be confirmed.
Ability to read CNC programs and make machining adjustments; full programming from scratch is not established as a requirement.
Strong blueprint-reading skills and an understanding of dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.
Experience selecting cutting tools, inserts, workholding, feeds, and speeds.
Ability to inspect turned components using precision measuring instruments.
Proven ability to identify machining problems and make appropriate corrections.
