    Job Description

    Summary
     
    The Machinist is responsible for the manufacture of parts per plant specifications in an accurate and timely manner utilizing manual and CNC machine centers. 
     
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
     
    This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary.
    1. Set up; program and operate CNC machine centers.
    2. Train other machinists on various machines.
    3. Assist in the decision making process of future machine and tooling purchases.
    4. Maintenance and repair of machines.
    5. Meets with engineers to discuss potential machine problems.
    6. Cleans work area.
    7. Sets up and operates tools according to instructions, specifications, and standard charts.
    8. Studies blueprints, work orders, and other specifications to ensure the proper setup sequence is followed. 
    9. Selects, places, and secures tools. 
    10. Places and secures workpieces in proper machine table, holding device, or other appropriate surface using clamps and wrenches.
    11. Prepares fixtures and feeding devices, starts machine, and engages feed.
    12. Observes each machine to verify quality performance.
    13. Verifies measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers are in proper working order.
    14. Sets and adjusts necessary controls to regulate machines.
    15. Sharpens tools with bench grinder as needed.
    16. Regular, reliable attendance is required.
    17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Qualifications
     
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     • Know how to operate and maintain manual and CNC machines like lathes, milling machines and saws.
    • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and CAD drawings.
    • Knowledge of basic geometry, trigonometry, fractions, decimals, coordinate systems.
    • Skills using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators.
    • Knowledge of G and M codes, knowledge of fixture and tool offsets.
    • Knowledge in selection of cutting tooling to achieve optimal precision, performance, and finish.
    • Ability to calculate speeds and feeds for milling, turning, tapping various materials.
    • Capable of writing/editing, proving CNC programs at the machine.
    Education and/or Experience
    • Vocational or technical certificate or 2-year associate degree in machine tool technology.
    • 2-5 years’ operating manual and CNC lathe and VMC. Familiar with Haas control desired.
    • Equivalent on-the-job machine shop experience.
    Physical Demands
    • Must be able to work in noisy environments.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 
    • Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, and climb to access all parts of the machine.
    • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles. Noise level ranges from moderate to high. Employee must follow all safety requirements carefully. The location of this position is on-site with no ability to work remotely.
     
    Compensation will be determined by experience, skills, and qualifications.
