Job Code: 82140308 The CNC Machinist is responsible for helping provide safe, efficient and reliable product and service delivery to customers, and identifying opportunities to improve production processes. The CNC Machinist ensures equipment is manufactured on time and to the high standards required in top of the line oilfield products.
This role is based in a manufacturing environment producing bits for downhole drilling and includes hands-on assembly, material handling, equipment operation, and cross-training across multiple production activities.
Responsibilities
Operate CNC lathes, mill-turns, or mills to produce graphite molds or machine steel bodied drill bits.
Utilize various hand tools and equipment to complete production tasks.
Rotate through different manufacturing activities as part of cross-training initiatives.
Participate in pre-job and Toolbox meetings with crew members.
Plan and execute maintenance activities for a designated role.
Maintain equipment according to procedures, reporting problems or deviations.
Operate equipment according to procedures, competency levels and job requirement.
Identify opportunities to improve the production process.
Participate in failure investigations when relevant.
Use the guiding principles and tools of the Manufacturing System to drive continuous improvement.
Required Experience
Operating CNC machines in a production environment or certification of completing a CNC training program.
Preferred Experience
Experience with DMG Mori mill, mill-turns, and lathe machines.
Experience with Grob mills.
Required Skills
Comfortable operating tools and production equipment.
Ability to read CNC machine code and make modifications, when necessary.
Ability to learn manufacturing processes and systems.
Strong attention to detail.
Team-oriented mindset.
Strong safety awareness and willingness to speak up regarding unsafe conditions.
Training Provided
All process-specific duties will be trained onsite.
Training provided on manufacturing processes and production equipment.
SAP system training provided.
Cross-training across multiple production functions.
Education Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Schedule
Monday through Thursday or Friday
6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Typically 40 hours per week
Schedule may increase to 12-hour days depending on production demands.
Schedule may occasionally be adjusted to 8-hour days based on business needs.
Physical Demands
Frequent standing throughout the workday.
Ability to perform manual production and assembly work.
Regular movement of production materials.
Ability to use hand tools and equipment such as:
Pipe wrenches
Die grinders
Impact tools
Chain-related lifting/support tools
Various assembly and production tools
Ability to work in a physically active manufacturing environment.
Must successfully complete the required fit-for-duty/physical agility assessment during onboarding.
Safety
Strong commitment to HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) principles.
Expected to identify and communicate unsafe conditions.
PPE will be provided.
