Our client, a growing precision manufacturer with over 50 years of success, is seeking an experienced5-Axis CNC Machinistto join its team. This is a hands-on position for a skilled setup machinist who can independently set up CNC mills, lathes, turning centers, and machining centers, make program edits at the control, and troubleshoot machining issues without relying on a dedicated programmer.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC vertical machining centers (VMCs), horizontal machining centers (HMCs), CNC lathes, CNC mills and turning centers.
  • Install and qualify tooling, fixtures, vises, and workholding.
  • Load programs and make offsets and minor program edits at the machine control.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, engineering drawings, and customer specifications.
  • Perform first-piece inspections before releasing jobs to production.
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Monitor part quality throughout production and make offset corrections as needed.
  • Troubleshoot tooling, machining, and dimensional issues to minimize downtime and scrap.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Support production goals while working collaboratively with fellow machinists and operators.

Qualifications

  • 3–8+ years of CNC machining experience.
  • Strong setup experience with CNC mills, CNC lathes, and turning centers.
  • Must have experience with 5-axis equipment
  • Ability to make program edits and offsets independently at the machine.
  • Experience with heavy CNC equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, GD&T, and hold tight tolerances.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, cutting parameters, and precision machining.
  • Team-oriented with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • CNC Turning Centers
  • 4-axis and 5-axis machining
  • Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or similar controls
  • CAD/CAM exposure (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement
