What your day looks like

When a production CNC cell hiccups, you step in. You’ll operate the equipment to replicate symptoms, trace faults down to the electronic or mechanical component, and tear down only what’s needed to make a precise fix. From realigning spindles and clutches to validating the repair under load, you ensure machines return to spec and stay there.

Core responsibilities

  • Operate CNC and related equipment as needed to diagnose failures and confirm successful repairs.
  • Troubleshoot to the component level (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic) using prints, system schematics, and test instruments.
  • Inspect and measure parts to identify wear, misalignment, and other variances; perform precision realignment and adjustments.
  • Interpret electrical schematics; measure AC/DC voltages; isolate faults in controls and power circuits.
  • Develop, own, and execute preventive maintenance plans for each machine; keep PM documentation current.
  • Coordinate outside vendors when specialized repair support is required.
  • Partner with engineers, programmers, production leaders, machinists, and operators to resolve machining and assembly issues.
  • Coach machinists and operators on proper equipment care and basic troubleshooting.
  • Support adjacent operations including raw material/saw, finishing, and parts washing when needed.
  • Perform occasional building repairs across mechanical, plumbing, electrical, air compressor, automated lubrication, hoists, and material handling systems.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

How you’ll succeed

  • Quality mindset: meticulous, thorough, and always validating results.
  • Throughput focus: work quickly and efficiently while meeting productivity targets.
  • Safety first: follow procedures, recognize hazards, and use equipment correctly.
  • Cost consciousness: seek root-cause fixes and long-term improvements that reduce downtime and spend.
  • Planning: prioritize, set clear goals, and manage resources to hit deadlines.

What you bring

  • Education/Experience: Associate’s in mechanical or electrical disciplines preferred (or equivalent military/technical training) and 5+ years maintaining CNC production machinery; equivalent blends of education and experience considered.
  • Language: read blueprints/machine drawings, safety rules, O&M procedures; communicate findings in reports and speak effectively with teams or groups.
  • Math: comfort with probability/statistics, plane/solid geometry, trigonometry; apply fractions, ratios, percentages; compute rates and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning: solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions; collaborate in group problem solving.
  • Computer/Test Equipment: basic PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, internet navigation); hands-on with digital multi meter, oscilloscope, amp meter, and meg meter.
