Our passion for the craft ignites a new generation of artisans and craftspeople restoring the tradition of excellence synonymous with made in America.
RH is seeking a CNC Manufacturing Engineer II to advance the production efficiency, precision, and technical execution of product lines at our Joseph Jeup facility in Grand Rapids, MI. This individual will collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and engineering partners to develop production workflows that reflect RH's uncompromising standards of quality and design. This role offers the opportunity to influence the next generation of bespoke creations through continuous improvement and technical mastery.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across high-mix product lines to elevate quality, enhance productivity, and reduce rework.
- Coordinate closely between Design and Manufacturing to ensure new jobs run smoothly from concept through production, resolving ambiguities before they reach the craftspeople.
- Oversee the development of physical machine setups, fixtures, and tooling, refining machining strategies based on real-world machine behavior and material response.
- Create and maintain supporting documentation, including setup instructions, machining notes, and tooling requirements to clearly communicate expectations to machine operators and planning teams.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of executable CNC machine programs for wood operations, translating engineering outputs into reliable production workflows.
- Review and validate CNC programs prior to production release, verifying tooling selection, clearances, depths, and post-processor accuracy.
- Diagnose and correct failures across CNC programs and operator execution, implementing solutions that are repeatable, simple, and production-stable.
OUR REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment, with a focus on CNC programming, machine setup, and process engineering. Experience in wood operations, millwork, or furniture manufacturing is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline preferred; highly experienced candidates with demonstrated shop-floor CNC skill sets will be considered.
- Advanced proficiency in CAM programming software and interpreting CAD models. While adaptability is key, experience with software such as ALPHACAM, Mastercam, or SWOOD is a plus.
- Strong technical understanding of CNC machining principles, including feeds and speeds, workholding, sequence planning, and fixture design.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, design-driven environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a passion for craftsmanship, innovation, and continuous improvement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods as required by project or production activities
- Lift and move materials, components, and prototypes up to 25 pounds independently
- Manual dexterity to handle models, tools, and materials in a workshop or prototype environment.
- Visual acuity to read technical drawings, inspect products, and perform precise measurements
- Comfortable working in both office and manufacturing environments, including exposure to noise, dust, and machinery
