CNC Programmer–Machinist, Geotechnical Components

A day in this role

You’ll begin by reviewing blueprints for drilling and geotechnical parts, selecting the right alloy, and deciding whether to hand-write G-code or generate toolpaths in CAM. You’ll mount fixtures, set tooling and work offsets, and run a first-article to dial in features to ±0.001". As production ramps, you’ll monitor quality, troubleshoot chatter or tool wear, and document inspection results. Throughout the day, you’ll coach Operators and Assistants, keeping safety and PPE top of mind.

What you’ll do

• Program CNC equipment using G-code and/or CAM software
• Execute complex setups: fixturing, tooling selection, and offset establishment
• Machine close-tolerance components from steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys
• Verify parts against blueprints and maintain dimensional accuracy
• Diagnose machining issues and apply corrective actions
• Mentor CNC Operators and Assistants to elevate team capability
• Record production and inspection data accurately

Minimum qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 3+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience
• Strong G-code programming proficiency
• Proven ability to hold ±0.001" tolerances

Preferred background

• Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology
• CAM experience (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360)
• Experience machining drill rods or downhole tools

Physical demands & environment

Expect prolonged standing and lifting up to 50 lbs, with exposure to cutting fluids, metal dust, and noise. PPE is required at all times.
