Coach - Robotics Coach

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is accepting applications for a robotics coach to co-teach the Robotics 2/3 evening course for the 2026-2027 school year. The robotics course will meet twice per week from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the robotics classroom at Christiansburg High School. Additionally, the robotics instructor will help oversee the workshop during an eight-week long "build season" each evening from the first week in January through the first week in March.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The robotics coach will assist in developing and teaching project-based lessons that expose students to programming, computer-aided design, circuits, metal fabrication, and the engineering design process. The robotics coach will supervisor high school students as they design, build, and test a FIRST Robotics Competition robot (www.usfirst.org/frc). The robotics coach will also assist in planning and organizing overnight trips to regional and national competitions and assist instructors with organizing a parent booster group and fundraising.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a Montgomery County Public Schools'' teacher
• Ability to be dependable and punctual

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Working knowledge of modern programming language such as Java, C++, or the LabView programming environment
• Knowledge of drafting or 3D animation software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or 3D Studio Max
• Operating knowledge of stationary and portable power tools (mill, lathe, band saw, welder, drill driver, grinder, etc.)
• Ability to solve high level math problems
• Experience in sculpture/design
• Experience in physics and/or chemistry
• OSHA safety training

PAY RATE: Teacher will receive supplemental pay for teaching an additional class worth 0.17 of their base salary.

The coaching assignment is a supplemental assignment for a designated period and is compensated in accordance with the School Board-approved supplement schedule. It is not a separate salaried position. The supplement compensates the individual for fulfilling the responsibilities associated with the designated coaching assignment within the designated period. Appointment to a coaching assignment does not guarantee appointment or reappointment to the same or any other coaching assignment in a subsequent season or school year.
