Summary: The Code Enforcement Officer I is under the direction of the Supervisor 2 - Code Enforcement. The Enforcement Officer is responsible for working in the field conducting investigations for the enforcement of Parish Ordinances, and presenting cases before the Administrative Hearing Officer.

Competencies: Employee must be able to operate basic office equipment, office computer and software, MPN, and other specialty equipment needed for the position. They must have the ability to apply navigational skills to drive to their assigned areas within the Parish. They must have the ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public. Employee must possess honesty and exhibit good moral/ethical behavior.
Work Environment: The incumbent works in a typical office environment, but will also work in outside field areas of land which may include swampy and wet conditions and uneven surfaces. The incumbent may be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment.
Physical Demands: Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions.
Required Education/Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent GED required. Employee must become familiar with codes, laws and ordinances under the jurisdiction of the Inspections and Enforcement Department. Must have a valid driver's license. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task, follow through and perform on a deadline, equal ability to work independently and with others, ability to work effectively with the public, and ability to prioritize work.
