Want to help shape the future of one of Maine's most historic and dynamic communities? Do you enjoy solving problems, working with people, and turning regulations into practical solutions? Are you excited by the opportunity to support thoughtful growth while protecting public health and safety?

The City of Bath is looking for an experienced Codes Enforcement Officer to join our team.

Bath is a vibrant riverfront community where historic preservation, redevelopment, housing, and economic growth come together. As a key member of the Planning and Development Team, the Codes Enforcement Officer plays an important role in helping residents, businesses, and developers bring projects to life while ensuring compliance with local ordinances and state regulations.

This position oversees permitting, plan review, inspections, and code enforcement activities citywide. The Codes Enforcement Officer also serves as the City's Health Officer and ADA Coordinator, supervises the Assistant Codes Enforcement Officer and a shared Administrative Assistant, and works closely with property owners, contractors, developers, businesses, elected officials, and community partners.

Is this your perfect job?

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable and professional; a problem-solver and trusted resource who enjoys helping people navigate complex requirements. You can interpret plans and regulations, communicate clearly with diverse audiences, make sound decisions in the field, and balance enforcement with education and customer service.

Candidates should have experience in code enforcement, building inspection, construction, land use, public administration, or a related field. State of Maine or ICC certifications are preferred, and the successful candidate must be able to obtain State Code Enforcement Officer certification within 12 months of appointment.

This full-time, exempt position offers a starting salary range of $76,336 to $99,216, depending on qualifications and experience, plus an outstanding benefits package that includes a comprehensive benefit package, ample paid leave, and participation in the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.

Join us as we help shape Bath's future while preserving the character that makes it unique.
