    Role snapshot

    • Serve as a senior Mechanic I who mentors junior mechanics and leads by example in safety, quality, and productivity
    • Execute critical coil header welds on galvanized and stainless steel using established MIG procedures
    • Perform precise plasma cut operations per BAC shop documentation on galvanized and stainless panels
    • Model BAC values: Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, Driving Innovation
    • Fill in for Station Lead or Team Leader as needed; act as an influencer and subject matter expert

    Impact you will deliver

    • Own team safety and use appropriate PPE; contribute to departmental safety improvements
    • Achieve outstanding weld integrity, including water-tight corner and connection welds
    • Maintain accuracy and pace; minimize downtime by following safety rules and break schedules
    • Operate equipment for maximum productivity and quality
    • Train and guide Mechanic II and III welders; document processes for knowledge transfer
    • Understand, communicate, and post departmental metrics; complete all required paperwork or online entries
    • Advance 5S, continuous improvement, and innovation initiatives
    • Support departmental goals for safety, quality, and productivity, including near-miss reporting and FPY metrics
    • Champion sustainability: reduce environmental impact, minimize waste, maximize recycling, and reduce energy and water use
    • Flex across workstations and functions; perform other duties as assigned

    Reporting and scope

    Reports to the Team Leader, Station Leader, or assigned supervisor. Provides hands-on leadership and mentorship, and may participate on regional project teams.

    Skills and credentials

    • Proven small-team leadership and mentoring ability
    • Effective written communication for process documentation and professional emails/memos
    • Clear, professional verbal communication with co-workers and BAC customers
    • Must pass GMAW 6G weld test; oxy-fuel welding knowledge preferred
    • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering drawings
    • Proficient in MIG welding and plasma cutting processes and equipment
    • Math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractional math, and fraction-to-decimal conversions
    • Use of measuring devices: weld gage, inclinometer, tape measure
    • Fluent with BAC submittals, fabrication sheets, and assembly lists (BoM’s); responsive to job schedules
    • Identify welding wires and gases appropriately; recognize welding and cutting hazards and apply precautions
    • Minimum one year experience in department preferred
    • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools; able to support root cause analysis of quality issues
    • Thorough understanding of machine-operation hazards; proven commitment to safety
    • High product knowledge across BAC models and parts
    • Excel proficiency for updating data and generating metrics in pre-formatted sheets
    • Adaptable across multiple department workstations; comfortable with change
    • Cross-functional collaborator who can also work independently
    • Understands and follows LEAN principles

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional activities include: walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
