GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.

This internship is with the Water Utilities Administrative Department located at 501 E. Lemon St, Lakeland, Fl. Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours a week. This internship begins in October.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist with marketing and outreach for the Water Utilities Department

• Assist in developing marketing materials including social media content

• Attend outreach events

• Assist with Water Conservation Efforts

• Assist with data entry and management tasks

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)

Enrollment in an accredited college or university in a major relating to Environmental Science, Natural Science, Marketing, or Communications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
• Canva experience preferred
• Knowledge of social media platforms and their use in marketing and outreach
• Must have a valid driver's license to drive a City Vehicle
• Skill in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment
• Willing to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends
• Ability to promptly and effectively complete tasks
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees and the general public
• Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

• Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis and up to 35 pounds on occasion, routine keyboard operations
• The job requires some outdoor work in the heat and sun
• The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards
• The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
